Does the fundamental host range of Trissolcus japonicus match its realized host range in Europe?

چکیده

Abstract Unintentional introduction of natural enemies has increased in recent years due to a massive rise global trade and tourism. One such enemy is the Asian egg parasitoid Trissolcus japonicus , promising agent for classical biological control Halyomorpha halys. In Europe, adventive T. populations have been detected Switzerland, Italy Germany. Host specificity testing demonstrated that its fundamental host range fairly broad; however, it unclear whether spatial or temporal refuges reduce parasitism non-target species field. To address this, realized was assessed over three by exposing sentinel masses H. halys 18 collecting naturally laid Switzerland Italy. total, 15 were successfully parasitized field, confirming broad range. However, most less than profiting from either partial parasitism. Species with an unusual life cycle same ecological niche as Pentatoma rufipes which both countries, potentially face risk contrast, beneficial effects may occur invasive pest, Nezara viridula suffered high non-reproductive mortality induced . cases, table studies will be needed determine impact potential consequences at population level.

Invasion success of a scarab beetle within its native range: host range expansion versus host-shift

Only recently has it been formally acknowledged that native species can occasionally reach the status of 'pest' or 'invasive species' within their own native range. The study of such species has potential to help unravel fundamental aspects of biological invasions. A good model for such a study is the New Zealand native scarab beetle, Costelytra zealandica (White), which even in the presence of...

Vegetative compatibility, host range and pathogenicity of Verticillium dahliae isolates in Iran

Verticillium wilt is an economically important disease which inflicts serious losses in potato, cotton, alfalfa, some vegetable crops and fruit trees and occasionally ornamentals. Verticillium dahliae, infected cultivated species and weeds were collected from several areas in Iran during tewelve years from 1993-2005 and studied for their vegetative compatibility, host range and pathogenecity. T...

Adaptive plasmid evolution results in host-range expansion of a broad-host-range plasmid.

Little is known about the range of hosts in which broad-host-range (BHR) plasmids can persist in the absence of selection for plasmid-encoded traits, and whether this "long-term host range" can evolve over time. Previously, the BHR multidrug resistance plasmid pB10 was shown to be highly unstable in Stenotrophomonas maltophilia P21 and Pseudomonas putida H2. To investigate whether this plasmid ...

The evolution of host-parasite range.

Understanding the coevolution of hosts and parasites is one of the key challenges for evolutionary biology. In particular, it is important to understand the processes that generate and maintain variation. Here, we examine a coevolutionary model of hosts and parasites where infection does not depend on absolute rates of transmission and defense but is approximately all-or-nothing, depending on t...
